Whats New Pussycat?

For this assignment I decided to ask people the question Do you think that President Obama will keep his job or will president hopeful Mitt Romney beat him out come this November? The reason I am asking this question is I think it is a very big and important issue. And the fact that november is coming up fast a lot of people have been asking themselves if they are happy with the job President Obama has been doing as of late. So for this quest I went out and ask five people who they think will win come November.

The first person I asked this question was my friend Austin. He believed that President Obamas job thus far has not been satifactory. He thinks that enough people are not very happy with him that he will not be able to get those important swing states. Making it easy for Mitt Romney to defeat him. The second person I interveiwed was my own mother. Since she is a Swing voter herself i thought it was very important to ask her that question. She believed that Obama has just began to make an improvent in the country but she also thinks most people dont understand that. She beleives that Romney will beat him out because people are scared that the next four years will be as rocky as the first. The third person I interviews was my friend Patrick Hortan. Patrick is getting his degree in Political Science so his opionion on this subject is a little more credible because his world his surrounded by this subject. He believed that since Obamas has done such a good job about recruiting younger voters that Mitt Romney stands no chance against him. He said because of the recent laws about student loans and finacial aid Obama has done he has quite the crowed of younger voters in his pockets. The fourth person i interviewed was my father who is the owner of a small business in Wickenburg. His opionion was creditble because he has seen first hand the job Obama has done on the economy. He said he has seen the economy pick up in the last year and he is very excited for the years to come. He believes Obama will get reelected because so many people are worried about the unemployment and he thinks Obama has done a pretty good job fixing it. The fifth a final person I interviewed was my grandpa Bill Gardner. He believed Romney will get elected over Obama because people are just not very happy with the job he has done this far. He thinks people are getting desperate and will do anything to get Obama out of the office to fix this country.

Walk On The Wild Side

                                                           Obamas Birth Certificate

Conspiracy theories have been around a long time, it seems when something big happens in the world someone, somewhere comes up with one of these to justify what happened. And usually these theories are supported by a mass number of people who just either don’t trust what the mass media is telling them or simple they really do believe what these people are telling with them. Because lets face it, people who come up with these things really do there homework and they always leave you saying “what if?” Because these claims usually cant be disproved or proven its really hard to know what’s real and what is just a plain lie. For this assignment I am going to be examining an aspect of one particular conspiracy theory, which is if President Obama is really a U.S citizen. The part of this theory I will be examining is if is birth certificate is indeed real or was it hoax that the president made after people started to question his legitimacy. I will be looking at other people’s research on this topic, and also people who are supporting that it is indeed real.

So this whole conspiracy theory started when president Obama was campaigning to because president in 2008. People started to questing wither or not he was a natural born citizen of the United States thus making him a illegitimate candidate for being president of the United States. The whole reason behind this was because his family was from Kenya instead of the United States. And the fact that Obama wouldn’t immediately come forth with his birth certificate raised some eyebrows across the United States. But that was back in 2008, and now it is 2012 and there is still some people who believe that the birth certificate that Obama did come forward with was in fact a fake. The evidence these conspiracy theorist have against Obama is for one he did not immediately come forth with a birth certificate thus leaving him more time to create one because he is a person of power so they believed he could have one created quite easily. Adding to the conspiracy theory was when he did release it late in 2011 it was believed that it was digitally forged, with the program Adobe Photoshop and that it lacked a Stamped Seal of the State of Hawaii to see a picture of this I provided a website with a detailed analysis
http://rightcounterpoints.wordpress.com/2011/04/27/is-obamas-newly-released-long-form-birth-certificate-legitimate/.

Now I will began to look at some sources who will give more insight on the claim that the President’s berth certificate is a forgery. My first source that I looked into was CBS news.http://www.kpho.com/story/17053035/arpaio-to-reveal-results-of-birther-probe.  The reason that I looked into what they had to say is that I believe that they try to stay unbiased and stick to the truth of what is really going on. In this particular article they are examining Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s claim that the birth certificate was not real. This article was in reaction to Sheriff Joe’s investigators who were trying to bring the truth out about the birth certificate. It even gave a link to the full investigation that Sheriff Joe put on. I believe that the article on CBS news was credible because it is a mass media news company and I believe it is the most unbiased out of all of them.

My second source of information on this conspiracy theory was
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthers/birthcertificate.asp. Snopes has long been a website for people who like to question things and look deeper into certain aspects of what is going on in the world around them. I believe that this website is credible because you said it was. The fact that it gives links that support the information that they have provided goes to show you that they did there homework and they can be credible. They give in-depth views on certain aspects of the conspiracy theory for example how Sherriff Joes claim was Debunked and even gave links to show how it was debunked. I liked how Snopes gave both aspects of the conspiracy theory then backed up how it was supported or was debunked.

My third source of information about this subject was the actually the White House website (
www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/.../birth-certificate-long-form.PDF)

. The reason I chose this for information was because it released the official copy of President Obama’s birth certificate. Even though I am not an expert in the field of document examination I still thought it was important to actually see the real thing. I believe that this website is credible because it is a .gov website meaning that it is run by the government of the United states. Usually this means that you can trust the information on the website that you are reading when it has a .gov domain on it.

Because of all the evidence from my sources I believe that this particular conspiracy theory is that it is indeed false. There is just to much evidence that it is real to believe that the president created a forgery. The fact that sheriff Joe's highly educated investagators team worked so hard to make us beleive that it was false then other experts debunked this goes to show you that it is infact a real birth certificate. So this conspiracy theory is BUSTED!

Book Vs. Movie

Book Vs. Movie

For this assignment I am going to discuss the differences between the book The Hunger Games and the recently Released movie. Because the book came out first I am going to examine the differences that the producers made to the movie compared to what the author wrote in the book. As well the similarities that the producers were able to copy from the movie.

One of the most significant changes that the producer makes to the movie compared to the book is the point of view that it is in. In the book the point of few through the whole thing is through Katniss’s eyes. You know what she thinks, hears, says, and does. You really don’t get much of the story outside of hear. While the movie it is not this way, I think they made it like this because it is a lot easier to do and is more appealing to the audience to do it this way. Because we as the audience can know everything that is going on instead of looking through her eyes the whole time. Another major difference in the movie was a major point in the plot of the movie. In the movie the major’s daughter gives katniss a pin in the shape of a mockingjay. But in the movie it is Katniss’s sister who gives the pin to her. This is a major part of the movie because the rebellions symbol is the mockingjay because of what Katniss did in the Hunger Games. I think that the producers made this change because they wanted to make her sister more of a character in the movie rather than being kind of ignored like she was throughout the whole book.  Another thing that the movie changed about the book is how the character looked and how they were portrayed. I thought that the actress who played Katniss was spot on but I was not envisioning Peeta the way he was in the movie.  In the book they described him as being a big guy, very muscular a pretty tall. But in the movie he was the opposite, it was a little weird seeing him smaller than Katniss was because I thought he would just be some big guy. I think they did this because they were trying to get a star studded cast and Peeta is portrayed by a person who is in a lot of other movies and is growing quite popular in the world of Hollywood.

Although the producers did make a few significant changes to the movie I think that it was better for the audiences to watch. One of the really good things they did was the stuck really closly to the storyline of the book, they didn’t stray to far to what really happened in the book.  They stuck so close to the story line because they didn’t have to change to much to make it a really good movie to watch. I am not saying that the movie was better than the book by any means but I think the producers did a really good job on the movie hitting all the important spots.

Lovemarks

It was very interesting learning about the emotional devotion some people have to certain brands. And how companies create this devotion on purpose to help there product sell and have almost cult following of there product. Some companies are very successful at creating this, one particular that comes to mind is the company Apple. While some companies are quite successful most are not successful at creating a following, a good example of this was the airline company Song airlines which tried so hard to create a brand devotion and failed miserably finally merging with Delta Airlines in 2006
http://www.justplanes.com/AirlineHist.html.
After watching this video I began to thing what is a brand that I have this type of devotion to. The brand that not only I have this type of devotion to but my whole family is the truck company Ford. Ford does a really good job with there commercials to get people to have a emotional attachment to there product. This is achieved by advertising what makes there truck better than the rest. Also it seems they are always trying to improve there product and it shows In there commercial when they are showing off there new product. A cool thing they do in there commercial is show off the truck and what it can do. Here is a commercial that is by ford a few years back that was telling people how tough there truck really is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhEkVakVWFE A few examples is when they tow a ridiculous amount of weight, or when they drop a huge weight into the back of there truck. We have always owned Ford vehicles as long as I can remember. And when I bought my first truck it was a Ford.
I think I have a devotion to the company because my parents did and also because we have always had good luck with the Ford product. I seem to be really hard on my vehicles and the ford brand has always been good to me, same with my family. I think that the values of the company is Build Ford Tough and since we are pretty tough on our vehicles it makes since that we would buy the Ford product because of its toughness and durability. The Ford company fulfills the needs of me because of they are always trying to improve there product wither it be able to tow more, withstand more of a beating, or increase the gas mileage without there being a loss of power. And also they fulfill my needs by being the best truck to tow things because of how well it handles under large loads.

Unpopular Culture

Reality TV is a big part of the popular culture in America today. But most of us are watching it blindly not knowing what the negative effects it is having on the American society. Just to show you the sheer amount of people who watch reality TV shows I found a website that gave the number of people who tuned into see the premier of the 4th season of Jersey Shore. The numbers in the United States alone were 8.4 Million. http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/01/07/jersey-shore-ratings-record/. I think that Jersey shore has a negative impact on American Society because in the show there is violence, cursing, drinking excessively. These people are getting paid millions of dollars to party pretty much, what kind of example is that setting for the younger crowd that watches this stuff religiously. Even the state of New Jersey thinks that the show Jersey Shore is giving them a bad images. The full article is on this website http://blog.livecitizen.com/70-jersey-jersey-shore-negatively-impacts-states-image/. Something really scary to read is "  Little children are just beginning to learn how to disassociate reality from unreality. They will have a hard time viewing a reality TV show and finding where the half truths lie. Therefore the negative impacts of reality TV shows are going to be higher for this age range." So when todays youth grow up there view on the "real reality" Will be disputed because they grew up watching this crap and think that it is the social norm to act and think the way these people do. So all these kids are watching them having sexual intercourse every night, staying up until the sun comes up, drinking everyday, and have no job. Lets just say im pretty scared on how these kids will grow up and what are there views going to be like? while they mirror the show Jersey Shore? i hope not.

My Tweeps

My Tweeps

For the quest finding my tweeps i chose to follow to people that i feel are very important to there Field of work. The first person i chose was Rush Limbaugh. Rush has long been a conservative voice in the American media. He currently has a Radio show where he discusses what is happening in America and how it applies to politics. I think he is an expert in his field because he has long been a conservative voice for people across the United States and his considered by the White House "The head of the Republican Party" http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/06/AR2009030603435.html. I chose him because i am interested in Conservative politics and the person that comes to mind when i think of conservative politics is Rush Limbaugh.

The second person i chose is Ted Nugent. Uncle Ted was once a very successful solo artist and also leader in bands such as Damn Yankees and Am boy Dukes. But this is not why i chose him. I chose him because he is an expert in the field of hunting. Ted owns many ranches across the United States that he uses solely as a Hunting Ranch. He owns huge ranch's in Mishigan, Texas, Oklahoma. He has his own Hunting Show called The Spirit Of The Wild on the Outdoor channel where he hunts freely across his ranches whenever he pleases. Where he shows you how to hunt different types of game in different states. I chose Ted because he hunts with a Compound Bow and i am very into hunting using these things. His twitter feed also gives advice on different types of hunting and also mixes in his political views in it as well, which are conservative views also.

Fads and Trends

For this blog post i am going to go through some of the Fads and Trends in my life. I think that some of these will be very different because it is coming from someone from a small town. I graduated with less than a hundred people in my class so i think in my life things are going to be different than people coming from a big city.

First Fad - Facebook

Just about everyone around you knows what facebook is or has one. It has become so big in today's society that people check it constantly throughout the day. To show you how big it really has become in the last few years here is a website http://www.digitalbuzzblog.com/facebook-statistics-stats-facts-2011/ Some people even have it on there phone so they can use it whenever, where ever they want. It is used as one of the main ways people communicate in today's world because of how easy it is to find people. I believe this is a fad though because remember myspace? How big that was and then boom facebook came out and now no one used it anymore.

First Trend- Social Networking

Social Networking is here to stay unfortunately. I found a website that shows just how popular they have become www.joesblogg.com/2010/03/social-media-usage-statistics-2010. Long gone are the ways of actually having to talk to people face to face. Now people can express there problems, emotions, hatred and a whole lot of other stuff over these social networking sites. Even coming from a small town everyone uses these things to get connected to people who live far away. I use them to communicate to my old friends where i used to live in Texas. I believe this is a trend because they have been around for the last decade or so and have no signs of slowing down just getting bigger and bigger in peoples lives today.

Second Fad- Gold Rush

Gold Rush is a new TV show that is aired on the discovery channel every Friday night. And it seems like at least in my friend group every Friday night you can usually find us watching the new episode at one of our friends house. Heres a website on the show http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/gold-rush-alaska/.  I listed this a Fad because one day this show will not be aired anymore and everyone will forget about it. But for the time being we watch it, and talk about it all the time. And it is a tradition that we watch it every Friday night.

Second Trend- Reality TV shows

It seems like in recent time the whole concept of reality TV shows have really caught on. Everyone has a show that they enjoy to watch wither it be Gold rush, Jersey Shore, Pawn Starts, and many more. Even though they shows will always fade and people will forget about them the concept wont. They is always people coming up with new ideas for these shows and it seems that every TV channel you watch they will always be a commercial for the next up and coming big new reality TV show. To show how Reality TV shows are growing in todays culture ive provided a link  http://anhoward.wordpress.com/the-effect-reality-tv-is-having-on-us-shocking-statistics/

Third Fad- Clothing styles

Clothing trends in today's world is a lot different than ten years ago this is why i classified this has a fad. Today in my culture we all wear jeans, cowboy boots, a country brand shirt. I guess you can say we dress like rednecks. But in our eyes were dressing normal because that's how we grew up and the lifestyle we live. We grew up with everyone wearing these things so naturally we wear them. But this will change one time probably when we grow up and change our minds on whats cool and what isn't. But for right now its in to be "redneck" where we come from

Third Trend- Mobile Phones

Mobile Phones are becoming more popular everyday it seems like everyone is using them to do things like internet browsing, facebooking, taking pictures and much more. I use one and all my friends are using one. Long gone are the days of having a flip phone and being able just to text and call people. Now adays smartphones are able to have touch screens, play games and other things. This website really goes to show you the amount of people using phones in todays world. http://www.email-marketing-reports.com/wireless-mobile/smartphone-statistics.htm

Fourth Fad- Brad Paisley

I hope to god this is a fad because i wouldn't even classify him as country more of a pop singer if you ask me. But none the less he is still a fad in the town i grew up in. Our local radio station plays him allot and you hear his songs everywhere you go. I just hope there not here to stay for any long period of time. This is a fad because with all singers there songs will eventually die out and not be listened to as mush as they were in there hay day.

Fourth Trend- Country Music

You can hear country music everywhere in the town I grew up in. Its playing in the grocery stores, the cafes, and all the bars. It is very big in my life because we are usually listening to it. When were driving around town, when we a partying or just relaxing we have a good old country song blaring on the radio. It is a trend because there is always going to be a country music genre. There will always going to be a new crop of country music stars coming out. Wither you enjoy listing to oldies like Hank, Waylon, Cash and Willie or enjoy the new stuff from Hank Jr., Paisley, Alan Jackson.

Fifth Fad- Keystone

The beer keystone is a cheap beer made by the brewing company Coors. This beer is of less quality of Coors light and is not very good tasting. But it is CHEAP! And that's why its popular with my friend group because we can buy it for less then most beers. I classify this as a fad because our taste will change eventually and we will move on to more expensive better tasting beers because we wont worry as much about the price and more on the better tasting stuff.

Fifth Trend- Skiing

Skiiing has been around a very long time. The first known use of skiing was actually around 5000 BC. It has became so popular that it is even an olypic event. First skiing was used to get around if you lived in mountain villigas in the snow. Now adays it is used for a recreational sport with millions flocking every year to the nearest ski resort in there states. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skiing
