Book Vs. Movie

Book Vs. Movie

For this assignment I am going to discuss the differences between the book The Hunger Games and the recently Released movie. Because the book came out first I am going to examine the differences that the producers made to the movie compared to what the author wrote in the book. As well the similarities that the producers were able to copy from the movie.

One of the most significant changes that the producer makes to the movie compared to the book is the point of view that it is in. In the book the point of few through the whole thing is through Katniss’s eyes. You know what she thinks, hears, says, and does. You really don’t get much of the story outside of hear. While the movie it is not this way, I think they made it like this because it is a lot easier to do and is more appealing to the audience to do it this way. Because we as the audience can know everything that is going on instead of looking through her eyes the whole time. Another major difference in the movie was a major point in the plot of the movie. In the movie the major’s daughter gives katniss a pin in the shape of a mockingjay. But in the movie it is Katniss’s sister who gives the pin to her. This is a major part of the movie because the rebellions symbol is the mockingjay because of what Katniss did in the Hunger Games. I think that the producers made this change because they wanted to make her sister more of a character in the movie rather than being kind of ignored like she was throughout the whole book.  Another thing that the movie changed about the book is how the character looked and how they were portrayed. I thought that the actress who played Katniss was spot on but I was not envisioning Peeta the way he was in the movie.  In the book they described him as being a big guy, very muscular a pretty tall. But in the movie he was the opposite, it was a little weird seeing him smaller than Katniss was because I thought he would just be some big guy. I think they did this because they were trying to get a star studded cast and Peeta is portrayed by a person who is in a lot of other movies and is growing quite popular in the world of Hollywood.

Although the producers did make a few significant changes to the movie I think that it was better for the audiences to watch. One of the really good things they did was the stuck really closly to the storyline of the book, they didn’t stray to far to what really happened in the book.  They stuck so close to the story line because they didn’t have to change to much to make it a really good movie to watch. I am not saying that the movie was better than the book by any means but I think the producers did a really good job on the movie hitting all the important spots.

Lovemarks

It was very interesting learning about the emotional devotion some people have to certain brands. And how companies create this devotion on purpose to help there product sell and have almost cult following of there product. Some companies are very successful at creating this, one particular that comes to mind is the company Apple. While some companies are quite successful most are not successful at creating a following, a good example of this was the airline company Song airlines which tried so hard to create a brand devotion and failed miserably finally merging with Delta Airlines in 2006
http://www.justplanes.com/AirlineHist.html.
After watching this video I began to thing what is a brand that I have this type of devotion to. The brand that not only I have this type of devotion to but my whole family is the truck company Ford. Ford does a really good job with there commercials to get people to have a emotional attachment to there product. This is achieved by advertising what makes there truck better than the rest. Also it seems they are always trying to improve there product and it shows In there commercial when they are showing off there new product. A cool thing they do in there commercial is show off the truck and what it can do. Here is a commercial that is by ford a few years back that was telling people how tough there truck really is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhEkVakVWFE A few examples is when they tow a ridiculous amount of weight, or when they drop a huge weight into the back of there truck. We have always owned Ford vehicles as long as I can remember. And when I bought my first truck it was a Ford.
I think I have a devotion to the company because my parents did and also because we have always had good luck with the Ford product. I seem to be really hard on my vehicles and the ford brand has always been good to me, same with my family. I think that the values of the company is Build Ford Tough and since we are pretty tough on our vehicles it makes since that we would buy the Ford product because of its toughness and durability. The Ford company fulfills the needs of me because of they are always trying to improve there product wither it be able to tow more, withstand more of a beating, or increase the gas mileage without there being a loss of power. And also they fulfill my needs by being the best truck to tow things because of how well it handles under large loads.

Unpopular Culture

Reality TV is a big part of the popular culture in America today. But most of us are watching it blindly not knowing what the negative effects it is having on the American society. Just to show you the sheer amount of people who watch reality TV shows I found a website that gave the number of people who tuned into see the premier of the 4th season of Jersey Shore. The numbers in the United States alone were 8.4 Million. http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/01/07/jersey-shore-ratings-record/. I think that Jersey shore has a negative impact on American Society because in the show there is violence, cursing, drinking excessively. These people are getting paid millions of dollars to party pretty much, what kind of example is that setting for the younger crowd that watches this stuff religiously. Even the state of New Jersey thinks that the show Jersey Shore is giving them a bad images. The full article is on this website http://blog.livecitizen.com/70-jersey-jersey-shore-negatively-impacts-states-image/. Something really scary to read is "  Little children are just beginning to learn how to disassociate reality from unreality. They will have a hard time viewing a reality TV show and finding where the half truths lie. Therefore the negative impacts of reality TV shows are going to be higher for this age range." So when todays youth grow up there view on the "real reality" Will be disputed because they grew up watching this crap and think that it is the social norm to act and think the way these people do. So all these kids are watching them having sexual intercourse every night, staying up until the sun comes up, drinking everyday, and have no job. Lets just say im pretty scared on how these kids will grow up and what are there views going to be like? while they mirror the show Jersey Shore? i hope not.

My Tweeps

My Tweeps

For the quest finding my tweeps i chose to follow to people that i feel are very important to there Field of work. The first person i chose was Rush Limbaugh. Rush has long been a conservative voice in the American media. He currently has a Radio show where he discusses what is happening in America and how it applies to politics. I think he is an expert in his field because he has long been a conservative voice for people across the United States and his considered by the White House "The head of the Republican Party" http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/06/AR2009030603435.html. I chose him because i am interested in Conservative politics and the person that comes to mind when i think of conservative politics is Rush Limbaugh.

The second person i chose is Ted Nugent. Uncle Ted was once a very successful solo artist and also leader in bands such as Damn Yankees and Am boy Dukes. But this is not why i chose him. I chose him because he is an expert in the field of hunting. Ted owns many ranches across the United States that he uses solely as a Hunting Ranch. He owns huge ranch's in Mishigan, Texas, Oklahoma. He has his own Hunting Show called The Spirit Of The Wild on the Outdoor channel where he hunts freely across his ranches whenever he pleases. Where he shows you how to hunt different types of game in different states. I chose Ted because he hunts with a Compound Bow and i am very into hunting using these things. His twitter feed also gives advice on different types of hunting and also mixes in his political views in it as well, which are conservative views also.
